What You Need Before You Start

Find the Learn button on your opener motor unit — the box hanging from the ceiling. It's on the back or side panel, small with an LED light next to it. The button color tells you which Security+ version you have.

Program a LiftMaster Remote (2 Steps)

1. Press and release the Learn button once. The LED lights up for 30 seconds — this is your programming window.
2. Within 30 seconds, press and hold the button on your remote until the opener light flashes or you hear two clicks. Done — test the remote.

For a second button on a two-button remote, repeat both steps for the second button.

Program a Wireless Keypad (877MAX, 387LM)

1. Press the Learn button once — LED on for 30 seconds
2. On the keypad, type your desired 4-digit PIN
3. Press and hold ENTER until the opener light flashes
4. Test: enter PIN + ENTER

Program HomeLink in Your Vehicle

HomeLink programming on Security+ 2.0 (yellow button) requires a two-step process because rolling codes must sync.

1. Clear HomeLink: Hold all three HomeLink buttons 20 seconds until the indicator flashes rapidly.
2. Train HomeLink with your remote: Hold the remote 1–3 inches from HomeLink. Simultaneously press the HomeLink button AND the remote button. Hold until HomeLink flashes rapidly — release both.
3. Press the Learn button on the opener once. Go back to the car within 30 seconds.
4. Press the HomeLink button 3 times (hold 2 sec, release, hold 2 sec, release, hold 2 sec). Opener light flashes = programmed.
5. Test the HomeLink button.

Clear All Remotes from Memory

Press and hold the Learn button for 6–10 seconds until the LED goes out. All remotes, keypads, and HomeLink buttons are erased. Reprogram each one you want to keep.
